Allons enfants… tralalalaaaa lala !
Right, exams have started but we still have classes, we have a week off coming but we’re going to spend it revising, and then there’s a proper week of exams finishing on March 7th. I’m leaving two days later. I’m a busy student, which might sound slightly oxymoronic. I’m the first to say I have hardly been busy in 2 1/2 years at Uni, so this is rather surprising. So what am I doing on this blog? Well the truth is I don’t feel busy. I usually revise one week before the exams, so no change here. And honestly, getting ready for a trip I look forward to more than anything isn’t stressful, it’s f*cking exciting! The only change is that I had to hide my pencils away so as not to start a new portrait. But I’m still allowed (by me) to doodle with my tablet from time to time. Let’s just fight against business (busy-ness?) and then I’ll be in London, so whatever happens I’ll just be on a cloud.
Bon, les exams sont commencés depuis hier mais on a toujours cours cette semaine, on a une semaine de vacances ensuite mais on va la passer à réviser, et ensuite une vraie semaine d’examens qui finit le 7 Mars. Je pars deux jours après. Je suis une étudiante surbookée. Je sais, ça fait légèrement oxymore. Je suis la première à dire que je n’ai pas vraiment été surmenée en 2 ans et demi à la fac, donc c’est assez surprenant. Alors que fais-je donc sur ce blog, me direz-vous? Le fait est que je n’ai pas l’impression d’être occupée. Je révise souvent une semaine avant les examens, alors pas de changement de ce côté. Et p*tain, se préparer pour un voyage que j’attends plus que tout, c’est pas stressant, c’est carrément génial ! Le seul changement, c’est que j’ai du cacher mes crayons pour ne pas commencer de nouveau portrait. Mais je m’autorise toujours à « crayonner » à la tablette de temps à autre. Alors luttons contre l’occupation (ouais, je sais, j’avais un jeu de mot en anglais, alors voilà), et ensuite je serai à Londre, alors quoi qu’il arrive, je serai happy.

Le Petit Baigneur
This isn’t an announcement in any way. I’m just drawing this to freak out a friend of mine. In case you’re interested, I can’t really draw babies without a model. So I used two of the dolls that are in my cupboard and posed with them.

Ceci n’est en aucun cas une annonce. J’ai uniquement fait ce dessin pour effrayer une amie. Au cas où ça vous intéresserait, je ne sais pas bien dessiner les bébés sans modèle, alors j’ai utilisé deux des poupons qui traînent dans mon placard et j’ai posé avec.

Yay I done it!
Just a (not very good) doodle inspired by a little boy I used to look after. I keep practising with my tablet. Though I believe I have finished trying out all the options on the software I’m using and it’s a bit too simple. I’ll try and find another one soon.
Just un gribouillage (pas très bon) inspiré d’un petit garçon dont je me suis occupée. Je ocntinue de m’entraîner à la palette graphique. Mais j’ai l’impression d’être arrivée au bout de mon logiciel, que je trouve un peu trop simple. Temps d’en trouver un autre.

I may have been procrastinating again, ie drawing instead of studying. The good news is, that means I’ll post the product of my procastination very soon. Though it also resulted in drawings like this one:
Funny thing is I’ve done worse than that, both subject and technique wise. Also, I’m happy to announce that I only have about 2 weeks left going to class. Then I get one week off, followed by one week of exams finishing on the 8th of March. And on the 9th of March… I leave for London! Woohoo! I’m looking forward to au-pairing again. My future host-family is the loveliest, I can’t believe my luck!
I’ll also be doing research on British improv comedy in preparation for my Masters thesis. Hello, comedy nerd! I’ve started already actually. Lots of « homework » to do. Plus I’ve been gathering sources for about a year, which means I have an awful lots of sorting out, reading and taking notes ahead. Which is very exciting.
So, in the meantime I’ll try and enjoy my last weeks at Uni. I’m taking a one-year « break » after that to work as a teaching assistant in England while writing my thesis. I may do that twice too, so maybe these really will be my last weeks going to class… Not the end of Uni though. That won’t be until I’m 26. Wohoo.
Have I been talking about my life too much? Erm, well, next post will be an actual portrait. Stay tuned.
Red Hair and Frill
I hadn’t done this for a while, so here goes. This is the whole (« slightly » accelerated) process of a drawing + watercolour. The whole thing really took me 2 1/2 hours. I didn’t add any music, as it was bound not to please everyone. So, feel free to listen to your own playlist while you’re watching.
I only noticed the light was bad halfway through. Also my headphones get in the way very quickly towards the end. I was wearing them around my neck for some reason.

Je n’avais pas fait ça depuis un moment, alors voilà. Voici le processus (« légèrement » accéléré) d’un dessin + aquarelle. En temps réel, ça m’a pris 2h30. Je n’ai pas ajouté de musique car il y avait de fortes chances que ça ne plaise pas à tout le monde. Donc, n’hésitez pas à écouter votre propre playlist en regardant.
J’ai remarqué que la lumière était mauvaise seulement vers le milieu. Aussi, mon casque apparaît brièvement vers la fin. Je le portais autour de mon cou pour une raison inconnue.

Umbrella
If being productive means testing a new watercolour box and new brushes, then I have been extremely productive today. But apparently it doesn’t. So here is something not very sophisticated I did while listenning to Puddn’head Wilson (so maybe I have been a little productive after all). I’m pretty happy with both the bow and the brushed, although, as I keep moaning about on this blog, scanned watercolours never look as good as the originals.
I have a proper portrait in the making, but I reckon it’s going to take me a long time. And with the exams coming, I really shouldn’t be drawing that much.
Si être productive équivaut à tester une nouvelle boîte d’aquarelle et de nouveaux pinceaux, alors j’ai été très productive aujourd’hui. Mais apparemment, ce n’est pas le cas. Donc voilà un truc pas très sophistiqué que j’ai fait en écoutant Puddn’head Wilson (donc peut-être que j’ai été un peu productive au final). Je suis plutôt contente et de la boîte et des pinceaux même si, comme je m’en plains souvent sur ce blog, les aquarelles scannées ne sont jamais aussi jolies que les originales.
J’ai un vrai portrait en cours, mais je pense que ça va me prendre pas mal de temps. Et avec les examens qui arrivent, je ferais mieux de ne pas trop dessiner.
A Study in Nude
Did a few studies today to catch a break from my revisions. I realised I needed to work on nudes so I’ll be doodling naked people a lot in the next few weeks, I guess. This was done relatively quickly, I wasn’t interested in the details. As you can tell from the face of this lady.
J’ai fait quelques études aujourd’hui. Je me suis rendu compte qu’il fallait que je bosse des nus, alors je vais pas mal croqueter des personnes toutes nues pendant quelques semaines, je pense. J’ai fait celles-ci assez vite, je n’étais pas intéressée par le détail. Comme vous pouvez vous en rendre compte si vous regardez le visage de cette demoiselle de plus près.
Eastwood… Clint Eastwood – 2
And so, after 8 1/2 hours of work (and quite a few episodes of various podcasts and TV series), here is my portrait of Clint Eastwood. My dad is happy, which is good otherwise I’d have strangled him. With all due filial love. Anyway, it turned out not to be as challing as I expected, and it was very interesting to draw an old man.
Et donc, après 8h 1/2 de travail (et un bon nombre d’épisodes de podcasts en tous genres et de séries télés), voici mon portrait de Clint Eastwood. Mon père est content, et il vallait mieux sinon je l’aurais étranglé. Avec tout l’amour filial que je lui dois. En tout cas, ça s’est avéré moins difficile que je le pensais, et c’était très intéressant de dessiner un vieil homme.
